Nile Petroleum Corporation (Nilepet) opened its new headquarters in Juba on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in the midst of the oil industry’s challenges.
President Salva Kiir presided over the occasion, cutting the ribbon to mark the conclusion of a project that took the institution six years to complete over the tenure of four managing directors.
Speaking at the event, Nilepet’s Managing Director, Eng. Benard Amour, claimed that the facility would act as a focus for innovation, research, and collaboration.
He noted that, as the country continues to modernize in all sectors, the opening of the new headquarters represents the country’s dedication to progress.
“For all of the young people in Nilepet, this is the beginning of their transformational journey. “I want us to change our mindsets,” Amour stated.
He urged citizens and company employees to remain dedicated to the road of growth.
“What produces results is commitment, integrity, and the love of being a citizen,” he went on to say.
He also stated that the National Gas and Petroleum Company’s headquarters were inaugurated in a world-class edifice, demonstrating teamwork and solidarity.
“We must demonstrate today that we can establish a better organization if we work together. No more divisions. No more segregation. “No more gender imbalance,” he declared.
He agreed that while the country seeks to responsibly use its natural resources, every agency must work hard to ensure that adjustments are implemented.
Amour emphasized that it is in Nilepet’s best interests to continue engaging with international investors and partners while upholding basic values of accountability, efficiency, and professionalism.
President Kiir noted in his speech at the new building’s commissioning ceremony that it represented the energy sector’s modernization.
Kiir praised Nilepet authorities and the entire government for their work toward the milestone, noting that the building will play an important role in defining the region’s oil industry’s future.
Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro, Minister of Presidential Affairs, noted that the facility demonstrates the country’s commitment to utilize its natural resources for economic growth and development to increase investment.
The event brought together all international partners in South Sudan’s upstream petroleum sector, including CNPC, Petronas, ONGC, Sinopec, and Tri-Ocean, as well as the joint operating companies Greater Pioneer Operating Company, Dar Petroleum Operating Company, and Sudd Petroleum Operating Company. Nilepet’s joint venture and subsidiary company heads were also in attendance.
There is a basement, ground floor, and ten upper stories in the 12-story Nile Petroleum Corporation Headquarters.
It is composed of both steel and concrete frame structures, with the meeting point of the two frames located on the fourth level.
