Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania will host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) accepted their combined proposal.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe made the announcement after meeting with the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Executive Committee board in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday.
The East African countries earned the hosting rights over Egypt, Senegal, Botswana, and Algeria, which withdrew from the bidding two days before the official announcement.
The committee also named Morocco as the host of the 2025 AFCON.
“The future of African football has never been brighter,” CAF President Motsepe said.
This will be the first time that East African countries have hosted such a prominent competition.
“We have rigorous standards for Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, including infrastructure, freedom of travel, support, and cooperation.Because the crucial element is that we’re absolutely resolved to preserve the greatest standards for African football,” CAF President Patrice Motsepe told the Daily Monitor on September 27, after confirming the three shared host countries for the 2027 AFCON.
With the announcement, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania will automatically qualify for the competition.
Motsepe also predicted that an African nation would win the World Cup in the near future.
